Best Michigan Road Trips
Updated: Dec 22, 2021
Michigan has some of the most underrated terrain with natural beauty all around. Which is why I'm such a huge fan of exploring my own backyard. I'd be remiss not to let you in on my favorite road trips in Michigan.
However, if you're a fellow Michigander, then you know just HOW unpredictable the weather can be. So I strongly encourage a 4x4 vehicle because you never know if you might see all four seasons in one day. And if you're on the hunt for reliable transportation then look no further than your local Ford dealer, Bill Brown Ford in Livonia, MI. With great leasing / purchase deals, you'll be sure to find the best ride for all your Michigan road trips.
Below are a few of my FAVORITE Michigan road trips. Although there are endless options, these were my favorite for a few reasons. For some, the photos just speak for themselves. For others, it was more of a reflective getaway in beautiful Michigan terrain. Either way, you can't go wrong with adventure.
Indian River: Whether you want a quick solo-getaway or a girls trip, this INCREDIBLE A-Frame Airbnb gave me all the feels. It's a cozy, charming and aesthetically pleasing A-Frame tucked in Indian River. With only a 30-minute drive, you can also explore Harbor Springs which has a quaint downtown with delicious restaurants. What I loved about this experience is that it felt very wholesome with minimal distractions. I would actually stay a week in this Airbnb because it was so beautiful inside (with all the basic necessities you would need).
Pictured Rocks: What can I say, these views speak for themselves! These breathtaking viewpoints give places like California a run for their money. A road trip to Pictured Rocks is an absolute must, whether you're a local or a tourist. The vast lush greenery is perfect for hiking enthusiasts because you can experience beaches, waterfalls, sand dunes and so much more. Some of my favorite spots in at Pictured Rocks National Park include: Miners Falls, Chapel Falls, Lovers Leap and all the random areas I stumbled upon. Pictured Rocks offers some of the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets - just make sure to book your sunset boat tour in advance as they quickly sell out. I love road tripping to this part of Michigan because it brings so much adventure with a strong connection to nature.
Mackinac Island: This gem is a classic. It brings back so much nostalgia for me because it feels as though time has stopped for a bit. Everyone is biking, walking or taking a horse carriage throughout the island. It's the perfect getaway for a beautiful weekend of resetting and enjoying the simple things in life. I highly recommend renting a bike and biking through the entire island and grabbing dinner at Woods Restaurant. I also recommend afternoon tea with pastries at The Grand Hotel. Overall, Mackinac Island brings relaxation, adventure and quaint corners to explore.
Those are the top 3 road trip experiences that I can recommend to anyone interested in exploring Michigan. Albeit, there are SO many other areas to explore within Michigan but this list is sure to give the adventure seeker, nature enthusiast and all around travel-lover a beautiful taste of Pure Michigan.
